Scratch Choir – A Ceremony of Carols
Longing, laughter, terror and tears: a whole world of emotion in Schubert’s songs, performed by one of the greatest singers of today.

In his short life Schubert wrote some 600 songs – ample opportunity to examine the “human condition” in detail. He frequently managed to create individual portraits, or entire psychodramas, within a few minutes of musical genius. This programme presents the vast scope of Schubert’s exploration of human behaviours and emotions from yearning to fear, intense rapture to encounters with death, and the discovery of light and sound.

Soprano Lise Davidsen, equally renowned for her Wagnerian operatic roles as her vocal power, control and emotional honesty, is joined by pianist James Baillieu.
