SHANTIES, SAILS & SMUGGLERS TALES
The Rogues Shanty Chorus proudly returns to the Seagull Theatre, after fourteen consecutive sell-out performances, with ‘Shanties. Sails & Smugglers Tales’
The Rogues Shanty Chorus music and performances aims to keep alive the tradition of Lowestoft’s unique coastal, cultural and musical heritage, generating interest to existing and new audiences by exploring the folk music created by the fishing communities of the town.
In this show, the group explore the spirit, hardship, and humour of seafaring life through the fascinating customs, superstitions and traditions of sailors – from mid-ocean fishermen to the perilous four-year whaling expeditions that pushed men to their limits. They promise a captivating celebration of courage, community, and, above all, the enduring pull of the sea.
The group promise to bring their usual inimitable mix of fun and rowdy sea shanties and evocative storytelling performed through equal parts authentic traditional pub singaround and unique charming humour – singing along will be encouraged.
After fourteen shows and fourteen packed houses, EARLY BOOKING IS RECOMMENDED
