BBC Philharmonic Orchestra: Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony
Mendelssohn’s evocative Scottish Symphony caps this concert which also features brand new music inspired by Maggi Hambling’s art as she marks her eightieth year, alongside the exuberant Dances of Galánta by Kodály.

The richly orchestrated Scottish Symphony depicts the craggy landscape of Scotland, while the Dances of Galánta is one of the most vibrant pieces of orchestral repertoire, a celebration of Hungarian folk music.

Deborah Pritchard is a composer whose music is inspired by colour, acclaimed for its luminous beauty and dramatic pacing. Her new violin concerto, performed by Harriet Mackenzie, will be accompanied by live projections of Maggi Hambling’s Nightingale night series, as nature, sound and art combine.
