NASAM Annual Brick Building Weekend 2026

Back by very popular demand is the truly amazing NASAM Brick Building Weekend. This event is spread over the 1st and 2nd of August – normal opening times apply on both days – that is 10am to 4pm. The event continues to be a resounding success and just gets better every year. By the way, these are the bricks that we’re not allowed to mention by name – but everyone knows what we’re talking about!!

This year we have a festival of attractions planned run by a host of brick building experts and enthusiasts. They’ll be displaying some truly amazing creations on many different themes including we’re told: dioramas depicting famous scenes from movie history, science fiction, dungeons and dragons (apparently ‘an absolute monster of a display’), historic buildings, a construction site, computer game characters, authentic trucks and trains, and of course a collection of British jet aircraft. To round things off, believe it or not we’re anticipating the arrival of a 4ft tall brick giraffe!

For those film makers amongst you there will be demos on how to make stop motion brick movies and a nostalgic look back on vintage sets dating back to the 1930s. No doubt this brick extravaganza will inspire you to create your own masterpieces and so we’re delighted to announce we’ll also have traders in attendance selling bricks, sets and clocks!

If you can manage to drag yourself away from the bricks, the Museum site will be fully open as usual from 10am through to 4pm on the day, with all the aircraft, cockpits and equipment displays, the 446th, Air Sea Rescue, Bomber Command and the refurbished Royal Observer Corps buildings all open to view, and Museum Volunteers on hand to explain the thousands of aviation related items that make up the Museum Collection.

The NAAFI cafe will be open for the serious business of tea (or coffee) and cake, and the shop will be offering a wide range of aviation related goodies to suit all pockets to help you make the most of your day.

We have aeroplanes on display that date from before the war through to the Canberras, Lightnings, and Hunters that have seen service in the RAF in more recent times, not to mention our stunning latest addition, the SEPECAT Jaguar GR1. Across the whole site we have more than 60 aircraft and cockpit sections on display and can often offer access into many of them for photo opportunities. Plus there are flight simulators to have a go in and cockpits to explore! Museum Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and point out some of the features of each aircraft. There really is something to spark everyone’s interest and to keep the whole family entertained for the day.

Well behaved dogs are welcome too, provided they are kept on a lead (but not in the shop please, it gets a bit narrow). We are wheelchair friendly with access to all areas – apart from aircraft cockpits.

Don’t forget that the Museum admission policy has changed – we are no able longer to rely on donations from our Visitors to keep us going but have finally had to opt for admission charges. Details are on the front page of the NASAM website.

We look forward to seeing you there for a really great two days…
