Lydia Shariff and Francesca Lauri – Into The Gathering Dark

A darkly atmospheric recital inspired by autumn, including Sally Beamish’s haunting song cycle and Mahler’s introspective Rückert-Lieder, deeply personal snapshots of the soul.Sitting alongside are works by Purcell and Britten, with the concert concluding with the mad scene from Handel’s Opera Orlando, where the protagonist envisions his beloved coming to taunt him after leaving him.

Lydia Shariff is a mezzo-soprano as at home in jazz and song as she is in operatic repertoire, and performs today with winner of the 2025 Kathleen Ferrier Awards Accompanist Prize, Francesca Lauri, both alumnae of Britten Pears Arts programmes.

Francesca Lauri is the Viola Tunnard Young Artist.
