Sonic Wave: Broken Spoke + Bonuru (double bill)
Sonic Wave: Broken Spoke + Bonuru (double bill)
After organising a series of summer concerts in the Waveney Valley, Sonic Wave returns to The Cut for their final event this year – a double-bill of genre-blending music with Broken Folk followed by Bonuru.
Broken Folk serve up an improvised feast of music and poetry with no boundaries. Featuring three extraordinary East Anglian artists – pianist virtuoso Will Fergusson, worldly percussion wizard Les Chappell, and frontman, multi-instrumentalist and poet Jason Parr, the trio blend folk, jazz and spontaneous creativity into truly unique experiences. Expect the unexpected as sound, rhythm and words collide in a performance that celebrates fearless expression.
Bonuru are an outstanding nu-jazz collective from Ipswich, led by guitarist Jacob Marshall-Tierney. Blending punchy brass, jazz improvisation, live electronics with alternative rock, soul, and dub, they’ve drawn comparisons to Fat Freddy’s Drop and The Police. Signed to London’s Blue Adventure Records, they’re receiving airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 3, and Jazz FM, praised by Gilles Peterson, Soweto Kinch, and Blue Lab Beat. Following their hypnotic Aldeburgh Festival performance, this is your chance to catch them live!
Once again, from 6 to 7pm you can also enjoy a vegetarian meal with flavours from Europe and the Middle East, make sure you book in advance and arrive early! At 7pm, the Waveney SHE choir will perform a few songs in the café, then the concerts in the theatre begin at 7:30pm.
