Suntou Susso and Robin Torbitt
Suntou Susso and Robin Torbitt
Suntou Susso is a renowned singer, percussionist, and master of the kora – the West African harp which has enchanted listeners and carried the soul of Mandinka culture for over seven centuries. Born into a renowned Gambian family of storytellers and peacekeepers, Suntou brings centuries of musical tradition to the stage, weaving it together with his own contemporary style.
The evening begins with an intimate solo kora set, giving space for Suntou’s enthralling storytelling and dazzling musicianship to shine. He is then joined by his trio of piano and drums opening up the music into rich, joyful grooves full of rhythm and improvisation.
Performing songs from his acclaimed new album, he explores themes of heritage, unity, and belonging with heart and thrilling skill.
Expect an intimate and vibrant show as Suntou and his band take you on multiple journeys: to the sunshine of Africa; his culture; and through the album’s messages of love, peace, and equality.
Support comes from Suffolk singer-songwriter Robin Torbitt, whose stripped-back atmospheric folk has been turning heads across East Anglia. Grounded in the spirit of 1970s songwriters and coloured with shades of alternative rock, Robin’s music is intimate, thoughtful, and beautifully crafted. A recent folk songwriting competition winner, he released his latest album Truth in August 2025.
